CONSCIOUSNESS IS A MOVEMENT THAT PERCEIVES ITSELF TO BE
An epilogue to the eleven paths of the Body-Territory
A child asks why the river is drying up.
A physician observes dehydration. An engineer calculates the water flow. A biologist follows the disappearance of species. An economist measures losses. An artist gives form to the silence left behind by the water.
Each field perceives a true part of the situation. The problem begins when one part believes it is the whole.
The eleven blogs moved from the isolated brain to the Body-Territory; from the Body to the Biome; from captured attention to democracy; from extracted data to collective income; and from inherited institutions to Real Jiwasa.
What was still missing was a language capable of keeping different fields in the same conversation.
The BrainLatam hypothesis begins with a sentence:
Consciousness is a movement that perceives itself to be within the metabolism produced.
It does not close the problem of consciousness. It proposes a bridge between matter, information, feeling, space, memory, lived time, and territory.
Before we perceive, the Body-Territory has already prepared spaces
When we speak of the three dimensions of the 5D Body-Territory, we are not imagining a screen hidden inside the brain.
We are speaking of internal spaces of representation built through transduction.
Light, sound, pressure, temperature, and chemical substances are converted into biological signals. At the same time, heartbeats, breathing, hunger, pain, visceral tensions, and bodily position provide information about the organism’s condition.
The external world is transduced.
The internal body is also transduced.
These signals encounter memories, habits, culture, and metabolic needs. A voice may recruit the memory of a person. A smell may bring an old kitchen closer. A public square may preactivate paths and dangers before any conscious decision is made.
In the BrainLatam model, 3D is this internal spatiality: depth, proximity, distance, position, and the relationship among representations built from external stimuli, interoception, proprioception, and recruited memories.
Tekoha, APUS, and the attention that moves between spaces
We call Tekoha the interoceptive field through which breathing, the heart, the viscera, temperature, hunger, pain, and metabolism leave traces in the Body-Territory.
We call APUS the proprioceptive and spatial field through which the body recognizes posture, direction, reach, balance, and possibilities for movement.
Tekoha and APUS constantly cross one another. A piece of news changes breathing; fear reorganizes posture; the memory of a fall changes how someone approaches a staircase.
Attention can move between partially preactivated spaces. It may bring a memory closer, enlarge a threat, follow a visceral tension, or rehearse a future action.
Research involving scientists from Chile and Argentina supports dynamic couplings between brain and body and the participation of interoception in bodily self-awareness. Such studies do not prove the 5D model, but they offer paths through which it may be investigated.
Time emerges when spaces move
A clock counts seconds.
The Body-Territory experiences duration.
A breath provides one interval. A heartbeat provides another. Walking toward a door, repeating a gesture, waiting for a reply, or remembering how many times something happened produces temporal references.
A memory may return quickly because it has been travelled many times. A wait may feel long because a threat remains active. Repetition also marks time through the strength of a trace, familiarity, and embodied sequence.
In the 5D Body-Territory, lived time emerges when internal spaces pulse, approach, move away, return, compete, and change priority.
There is evidence linking interoception, cardiac signals, and temporal accuracy, as well as evidence that perceived duration changes across the cardiac cycle. Breathing and heartbeats also modulate perception. This supports the idea that lived time is not separate from bodily rhythms.
The proposal that time emerges from the relative movement of internal spaces remains a BrainLatam hypothesis.
In this model, time does not need to occupy an independent axis.
It appears when one space changes in relation to another.
A threat that approaches creates urgency.
A memory that moves away produces forgetting.
A space that remains unresolved creates waiting.
A movement repeated many times becomes familiar and may be performed more rapidly.
The perception of time therefore emerges from the relativity among real internal spaces that change within the Body-Territory.
Matter, information, and feeling
Triple-Aspect Monism, proposed by Brazilian researcher Alfredo Pereira Jr., helps avoid a rigid separation between body and mind.
A conscious experience would bring together three aspects of the same reality:
the matter and energy of the living body;
dynamic patterns of information;
feeling, or qualia, lived in the first person.
Think of a glass of water.
There is matter: water, temperature, and circulation. There is information: location, memory, and the possibility of reaching it. There is feeling: urgency, relief, or pleasure.
In the 5D Body-Territory, the three dimensions give form to representations; movement transforms their relationships; and qualia give lived intensity to what is happening.
The models are not identical, but they can speak to one another without separating materiality, information, and feeling.
The Damasian Mind and the belonging of experience
Antonio and Hanna Damasio propose that homeostatic feelings are fundamental to consciousness: the organism represents not only objects, but also how its own life is being modified.
The image of a river may be thirst, childhood, danger, livelihood, or loss.
It is this reference to the organism that allows experience to say, even before language:
This is happening to me.
BrainLatam adds that this “me” is a Body-Territory: brain dynamics, visceral tensions, posture, memory, culture, and relationship with the Biome.
Consciousness would not be a finished photograph, but the updating of internal spaces in which movement acquires meaning and is felt.
We do not perceive only the object that approaches.
We also perceive what its approach does to breathing, the heart, posture, memories, and possibilities for action.
Metabolism does not end at the skin
Metabolism uses oxygen, water, food, and relationships produced beyond the skin.
Language comes from other people. Calm depends on safety. Anxiety may carry debt or violence. Food depends on soil, rain, and work.
For this reason, the Body-Territory should be the minimum unit of the State.
The Biome is not scenery surrounding the mind. It participates in the production of the metabolism that makes experience possible.
This does not mean that every Biome possesses human consciousness. It means that all known human consciousness is Biome-dependent.
When a river is contaminated, something changes in the territory, metabolism, feelings, and future possibilities.
When attention is captured by an algorithm, something changes in the internal spaces that receive priority.
When debt keeps the future permanently preactivated as a threat, lived time may become narrower.
Politics, economics, technology, and the environment also participate in the material organization of consciousness.
DANA: spiritual plurality and material responsibility
In the BrainLatam formulation, a Secular DANA State does not decide which transcendent truth is correct.
It protects the right to believe, not believe, doubt, and change one’s beliefs. At the same time, it does not remain indifferent when religion, ideology, technology, or markets produce destructive consequences for Body-Territories and Biomes.
One person may understand the river as divine creation.
Another as an ancestral presence.
Another as an ecosystem.
The State does not need to choose one interpretation.
It needs to prevent the river from being poisoned.
DANA does not transform science into religion. It offers a principle of responsibility: different explanations may coexist, but none should receive authorization to destroy the material conditions that allow life to feel, believe, doubt, and continue existing.
A shared language among fields of knowledge
Different fields do not need to accept a final theory of consciousness. They can begin with common questions:
What is materially happening?
Which signals were transduced?
Which memories and spaces were preactivated?
How do these spaces move, and how are they felt?
Which Body-Territory and which Biome sustain the phenomenon?
The Exact Sciences study patterns, energy, and information; Engineering studies structures; the Biological Sciences study metabolism and ecosystems; Health Sciences investigate interoception and care; Agricultural Sciences study water, soil, and food; Applied Social Sciences study credit and law; the Human Sciences study history and power; Literature and the Arts express qualia that still have no measurement.
No field needs to abandon its precision.
Physics does not need to transform movement into poetry.
Art does not need to transform feeling into a physiological marker.
Medicine does not need to explain, by itself, the social origin of pain.
A shared language allows each field to recognize where its explanation ends and where listening to another field must begin.
Neuro Challenge Latam: measuring without reducing
Some of these traces can be measured.
EEG follows brain dynamics and attention; NIRS follows hemodynamic changes; ECG, breathing, electromyography, skin conductance, posture, and movement follow other dimensions.
But no measurement records a quale directly.
Brazilian studies warn that heartbeat-perception tasks have limitations, and fNIRS research shows that breathing and heart rate can confuse interpretation when they are not recorded.
An electrode does not measure fear as experience.
A cardiac change cannot, by itself, reveal hope, threat, or joy.
The Neuro Challenge must call every field and combine bodily measures, first-person reports, memory, culture, environment, and community participation.
The question will not be which discipline owns consciousness.
It will be:
Can we observe the movement without taking away from the person who lives it the right to interpret it?
When life perceives that it is happening
Let us return to the river.
The different fields continue to perceive different things. Now they recognize something shared:
matter is being transformed;
signals are organizing internal spaces;
memories are preparing possibilities;
rhythms are providing temporal references;
and someone is feeling the consequences.
Perhaps the eleven blogs were trying to say one thing through different paths:
There is no brain without a body.
There is no body without a territory.
There is no territory without a Biome.
And there is no human consciousness outside the material movement that allows life to perceive that it is happening.
Consciousness is a movement that perceives itself to be because a Body-Territory transduces the world, recruits its history, preactivates spaces, travels through possibilities, and feels the transformations produced.
It is not a final answer.
It is a language through which different fields can look at the same river without forgetting that none of them, alone, is the water.
