The Synchronicity of Belief in Money – Decolonial Neuroscience
The Synchronicity of Belief in Money – Decolonial Neuroscience
“Money is synchronized belief.” — Jackson Cionek
Money as Neural Faith
Money is the most stable belief humanity has ever produced.
It does not exist in nature — it lives in synapses,
in electrical and chemical discharges representing collective trust.
Every time we trust a currency, a brand, or a government,
we activate the same neural circuits of faith that sustain religion.
It is the dopamine system that turns maybe into real.
The reward lies not in the object, but in the expectation of belonging —
in the social recognition that comes with shared value.
Decolonial Neuroscience reveals that money is not neutral:
it is a field of synchronization between minds,
a collective dopaminergic system defining what we feel as possible.
The Reward System and Economic Faith
Our brain does not clearly distinguish between spiritual faith and monetary faith.
Both follow the same neurochemical logic:
Anticipation of reward → dopamine release (motivation).
Receipt of reward → opioid release (satisfaction).
Absence of expected reward → insular cortex activation (frustration, anxiety).
These mechanisms evolved to sustain survival,
but today they are exploited by economic and digital systems
that amplify dopamine peaks to maintain attention, consumption, and obedience.
In a hyperconnected world, money becomes an algorithm of faith —
a symbolic field where dopamine is distributed globally,
dictating not only what we do, but how alive we feel.
Shared Belief and Social Synchronicity
Money works because everyone believes at once.
This simultaneity of belief is what philosopher Alfred North Whitehead
might call a social organism —
a living body composed of minds linked through expectation.
When that belief collapses (through inflation, crisis, or corruption),
the system loses coherence, and Human Quorum Sensing breaks down.
Social dopamine fragments, and with it, the sense of collective belonging.
But when faith reorganizes — in cooperative movements,
local currencies, or purpose-driven economies —
the social body regains rhythm.
The currency breathes again with the Earth.
DREX Citizen: When Value Returns to Life
The DREX Citizen proposal restores money’s biological function:
to act as the oxygen of a living economy, not its poison.
Inspired by physiology, DREX is imagined as a metabolic currency,
flowing daily like energy through cells,
guaranteeing a vital minimum for each citizen —
just as the body guarantees energy to every cell.
This vision breaks from the dopaminergic scarcity model of capitalism —
where a few accumulate pleasure peaks while many live in social anergy.
In DREX Citizen, value circulates, belonging is distributed,
and collective dopamine finds balance through cooperation.
It is a return to the original meaning of “economy”:
oikonomia, the management of the home — our shared planetary home.
Bioeconomic Ethics and Political Synchronicity
Neuroscience shows that sharing activates more dopamine
than owning or accumulating.
To give, to cooperate, and to belong generate more stable and sustainable brain states
than competition or hoarding ever could.
Thus, the future of economics lies not in speculation,
but in the synchronization of metabolism, emotion, and territory.
Politics and economics are, at their core, collective neurophysiology.
True wealth is the capacity to sustain the living flow of trust,
without hijacking the dopamine of the many to feed the pleasure of the few.
Money That Breathes With the Earth
Belief in money can be destructive when it separates humanity from the Earth,
but sacred when it reconnects them.
When value is born from the citizen and returns to the ecosystem,
economy ceases to exploit life and begins to pulse with it.
That is the horizon of Decolonial Neuroscience:
to recognize money as a neurocultural tool,
a mirror of our networks of faith, belonging, and desire.
And by reprogramming our beliefs,
we can also reprogram our brains — and our worlds.
